I surrender

I am mourning the loss of my white strappy sandals and my white ballet flats this Labor Day. They won’t see sunlight until Easter unless I feel daring. I’m not a conformist but more of a traditionalist….I don’t like to break rules. So, while many fashionistas breezily wear white into the fall and winter, I can’t bring myself to do it. The rule has its roots in the 50s when the upper class wanted to distinguish itself from the lower class who they believed didn’t know proper etiquette. Isn’t putting others down poor etiquette as well? One of my favorite bloggers, Manolo's Shoe Blog gives his take on this age-old question. On the up side, it may be a good time to see if I can snag a pair on sale for next summer. I think I need a shoe with a little bit of a heel….preferably in 8 1/2.

I had no idea that that is where the no white after labor day rule came from! I always it was some sort of practicality thing.
